Elias N. Tsakos
our president
Any reference to our company's history would be incomplete without emphasis on the life of our founder, Mr. Elias N. Tsakos.
Mr. Tsakos, indigenous to the island of Chios and the village of Kardamyla, stems from a lineage of deep-rooted maritime tradition. From the early age of 17, having been inspired by the tales of his father's and brother's maritime adventures, Mr. Tsakos left home and traveled to Athens to attend the Merchant Marine Engineering Academy of Aspropyrgos, from where he graduated in 1961.
By the late 1960s, Mr. Tsakos had worked from Engine Cadet to Chief Engineer and attained engineering diplomas in both steam turbine and diesel engines. Throughout this period he also attended post-graduate marine engineering courses in the United Kingdom all while supervising SD-14 newbuildings at Sunderland Shipyard as Superintendent Engineer for the account of Aegis Shipping.
In 1970, Mr. Tsakos returned to Athens and established Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A. along with his brother Captain Panagiotis N. Tsakos and his cousin Captain Pantelis Efthimiades. Throughout the 70s, in the position of Senior Superintendent Engineer, Mr. Tsakos took delivery of twenty-eight second-hand ships, some of which had been acquired in lay-up and others in poor working condition.
In 1981 Mr. Tsakos took the position of Technical Manager and soon after became Marine Manager. Four years later he was promoted to General Manager of Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A. and held this position for the next five years.
In 1990, after having dedicated twenty years to Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A., Mr. Tsakos decided to establish the next ship management company within the Tsakos Group of Companies.
To this end, Entrust Maritime Co. Ltd. was born.
